From it's position in southern France Toulouse is quickly becoming a popular alternative for tourists who want to experience the French culture but do not want the hustle and bustle of Paris or the Côte d'Azur.  Nestled half way between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic and in close proximity to the Pyrenees, Toulouse is a great base for exploring the mountainous region around Saint-Gaudens and Carcassonne and is also within easy reach of the Parc National des Pyrénées.  The town of Toulouse itself also provides numerous sight-seeing opportunities including Les Jacobins monastery, Pont-Neuf bridge and the Basilique Saint Sernin.  Toulouse is also the home of Airbus and it is possible to go on a tour that includes seeing the A380 production line.

Toulouse Airport, otherwise known as Aéroport Toulouse-Blagnac, is a moderately busy international airport serviced by a number of airlines including British Airways, BMI, EasyJet, FlyBe, Jet2.com and Thomas Cook.  The airport itself is presently a single terminal, though split into three different (interconnected) halls.  A fourth hall is currently being constructed and will likely allow for further airline visits.  Car hire within Toulouse-Blagnac Airport shouldn't be difficult - there are a number of companies, including ADA, Avis, Budget, Hertz, National/Citer, Europcar and Sixt, based at the entrance of the Arrivals hall.  Once outside the airport you can get onto the Toulouse motorway network (the A620-A62-A61) by following the Voie le Fil d'Ariane south to the A624.  If you head east the A624 feeds into the A620 ring-road network.
